Your ears have impressive self-cleaning properties. In most cases, your ears will naturally produce an ideal amount of cerumen (or ear wax) to lubricate the ear canal and prevent dust, particles and other debris from being pushed further inside.

In rare cases, an excess build up of ear wax, or ear wax impaction from the overuse of cotton swabs, can lead to uncomfortable symptoms and may require professional ear wax removal. It may be wise to schedule a professional ear cleaning appointment if you are experiencing any of these symptoms:

  • Partial or minor hearing loss in one or both ears
  • Ringing sound in your ear (tinnitus)
  • Persistent itching feeling, or odour/discharge
  • Feeling of fullness or plugged ears
  • Persistent pain in ears

If you are experiencing these symptoms, it’s important to refrain from home remedies to attempt to clean your ears, such as the use of cotton swabs or ear candling. Generally, putting anything into your ears is a bad idea!

Dunn Audiology provides ear wax removal services for $50, and we have many appointment times available. Send us a message to book an ear wax removal appointment with one of our experienced audiologists for immediate relief of ear wax buildup symptoms.
