An audiologist can be an important member of your post-concussion rehabilitation team as they can address and provide interventions, therapies, and technologies for audiology-related symptoms. There are many post-concussions symptoms, including difficulties with hearing, processing, and balance.

Prolonged auditory and vestibular symptoms stemming from a concussion can include difficulty hearing and following conversations, tinnitus, dizziness, nausea and more, all of which can adversely affect one’s daily life.

Prolonged hearing and balance (vestibular) symptoms include:

  • Trouble hearing conversations in a quiet environment
  • Difficulty following conversations in background noise
  • Tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in the ears)
  • Hyperacusis (increased sensitivity to everyday sounds)
  • Misophonia (severe sensitivity to certain sounds)
  • Dizziness or vertigo

Audiologists are registered healthcare professionals who can screen, assess, identify, and treat hearing loss, auditory disorders, tinnitus and as well as vestibular problems for people of all ages who have experienced a concussion.

These post-concussion symptoms do not need to persist. Concussion management and treatment are vital for your recovery. We will start with a discussion about your symptoms, followed by a hearing test.

Contact Dunn Audiology to make an appointment if you experience these symptoms after a concussion. We can help!
